“If you don’t like the weather in Texas…wait 5 minutes”’

– Anonymous (but really, everyone who lives here)

At the beginning of 2017, Southlake, Texas saw a low of 12 degrees with a wind chill of 1 degree (thanks for that 1, Weather!).  Forty-eight hours later, and the high was 70.   It just goes to show that Texas weather really can be an unpredictable roller coaster and you can’t let a couple of spring-like days fool you. Winter isn’t done with us yet!

Don’t pack up that winter wardrobe – give it a fresh update instead!  We ventured out into Southlake Town Square to find this winter’s hottest looks that can keep you warm on blistery days while easily transitioning into the spring season just around the corner.   These must-have winter pieces were featured on Good Day Fox 4 on January 21st!

      VineyardVines2     VineyardVines3

This isn’t your grandma’s itchy cable-knit sweater.  This Vineyard Vines find has everything going for it – warmth, a dramatic wrap and great texture!  Wrap it around your shoulders on really cold mornings, then drape it open and show off a cute tee on warm afternoons.

We love this sweater paired with a white skinny jean.  This is a great example of dressing warm but looking soft. Throw out the old rule that you can’t wear white in winter.  This is definitely a great example of winter white done right!

ApricotLane

Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you can’t dress a little sexy for a date night!  We love this chunky-knit sweater dress from Apricot Lane seen in a beautiful olive green (an on-trend color for spring!).  This dress is paired with fabulous black, faux leather leggings – both comfortable and fashionable!

Throw on a simple, collared, button-down blouse underneath and the dress goes from “Girl’s Night Out” to “Co-worker’s Day In.”

For warmer days, take away the leggings, and you can easily make this dress work with a great pair of booties and bright accessories.

Columbia

What about those chilly weekend mornings when you want to get out and take a hike….but then meet your girlfriends for brunch at Brio?  Why bother changing? Go from water bottles to mimosa flutes with this perfect winter athleisure wear outfit from Columbia PFG . The “ice drifter” hoodie sweater is layered with Columbia’s signature Dualistic Baseball Jacket.

The “dual” purpose of this jacket is to keep warm and look hot!  The jacket has built-in insulators to keep you nice and toasty AND it has a modern twist on a baseball jacket that’s sleek and feminine.   The skinny pant is designed for active wear but looks and feels like a pant you can easily wear to the office or a night out.   The outfit is accessorized with great, multi-use waterproof boots (you know, in case you spill your mimosa…).

Maloufs

The vest is back!   Take one of the most popular on-trend pieces of 2017, wear it in winter wool and you’ll look both current and comfy.  This vest by FifteenTwenty is seen in a beautiful black and blue plaid with fun, black leather detail.  For a fun pop of color, it’s matched with a pair of red, vintage wax-denim skinny jeans by AG Jeans.  Wax denim gives you the familiarity of your favorite pair of blue jeans while still making you look sexy and chic.

As seen on the runways, velvet is THE material of 2017!  In keeping with the trend, this look is completed with fabulous black velvet booties by Joie.  This whole outfit is available at Malouf’s here in the Square!

SoftSurroundings

Frosty temps doesn’t mean you can’t wear an amazing dress!  This tartan plaid shirtwaist dress from Soft Surroundings is the perfect blend of warmth and sophistication.  Worn by our spokesperson, Laurie Graham, we paired this with a great statement belt and tall, felt boots making Laurie look cozy and fashionable on any winter day.
